1. Overview |
Business Planning is an essential part of Strategic Management Planning. STAFF work on ACTIONS or processes within BUSINESS UNITS that deliver SERVICES that align to corporate GOALS and OUTCOMES.
The Corporate Business Planning area allows you to set up operational level plans for each business unit which can include the following:
Overview
Core Values
Service Profiles
SWOT
Actions
Weight and Priorities
Key Performance Indicators
These are accessed via Menu > Planning > Delivery Program / Operational Plan > Overview in the Main Menu as shown below:
The entry of accurate and relevant details in these areas is crucial as it will determine the final output of several key system reports such as the Annual Business Plan Report, the Issue Summary Report, etc.

A Business Plan focuses on the Actions and tasks required to deliver the Service Plans, and ultimately the direction of the organisation set out in the Corporate Plan. It is:
A plan that integrates the strategic direction of the organisation and Service Plans with the operational requirements of the Directorate and Business Unit/Region.
A process that involves the reviewing of the Business Unit’s environment and the development of actions and tasks that provide management with the ability to manage resources.
An essential link between the strategic direction (high-level planning) of the organisation and the budget process, giving the management a balanced approach (middle-level planning) to allocate resources.
2. Business Unit Overview |
The first step when setting up your business plan is to record some preliminary information about your business plan.
STEP 1: To do this, go to Menu > Planning > Delivery Program / Operational Plan > Overview, or select Overview from the Side Toolbar.

Note: The Business Unit’s name, Responsible Person & Directorate fields are automatically populated and cannot be changed. These can only be edited through the Framework area by users with the relevant security permissions. |
At the top left-hand corner, you will see a drop-down list displaying your current Business unit. When you are logged in, the default setting will be set to the Business unit your system Administrator has linked you to from the Framework area. If you want to view another Business unit, you can select it from the drop-down list.
STEP 2: Specify the remaining details regarding your business unit.

Department Mission | Allows the ability to record a Business Unit Mission statement. This should be complementary as to not conflict with the organisation’s mission statement. | Optional |
Recent Achievements | Allows commentary on previous achievements for inclusion in the Business Plan report. | Optional |
Business Planning Context | Enables discussion of the key assumptions upon which the Business Plan has been developed (e.g. there will be additional staff). | Optional |
Stakeholders | Provides for the analysis of the customers and stakeholders of the business unit. This can be supplemented by the development of a stakeholder diagram that can be uploaded on a document. | Optional |
STEP 3: To upload a document, click on the Browse button to locate a file on your workstation or network.
STEP 4: Click on the image placeholder if you want to associate an image with this entity.
STEP 5: Click the Save button.
