More About Filters

More About Filters

1. Filter Alias

The Filter Alias is the display text for the filter at runtime, if visible.

  • Must be unique within the report. Duplicate aliases will trigger an error.

  • Can contain any characters except [” and “]

Figure 1.1

2. Filter Visibility

Filters with fixed conditions (e.g., ‘Directorate’ always equals 'Corporate Services') should be hidden at runtime.

Note: You may wish to always set your system period filter to the current period within your reports and hide it to ensure users do not accidentally access data from archived periods e.g. 17/18.

3. Mandatory Filters

Mandatory filters require the user to enter a value to run the report.

  • Example: If a ‘Directorate = Corporate Services’ filter is visible but not required, the report defaults to Corporate Services but allows the user to select a different Directorate or leave it blank to show all results.

4. Cascading Filters

Cascading filters constrain available values in dependent filters.

  • Example: With System Period and Directorate filters, selecting a System Period will limit the Directorate options to only those valid for that period.

5. Sorting Filter Values

Click the sorting icon repeatedly to set the filter values in:

  • Unsorted

  • Ascending

  • Descending

6. Filter Conditions

Operators are grouped as: Comparison, Equivalence, Field Comparison, or String.

  • Choose the operator type and then enter or select the fields/values.

  • Available operators depend on the field’s data type:
