MQU – My KPIs – KPI trend to be based on Actual value

This setting would enable the KPI trend arrow to be based on the KPI actual value instead of overall KPI performance.

1. Business Rules

  1. The direction of the trend arrow will consider the calculation method of a KPI

When Previous/ Current Period ≠Target; |Target – Previous Period|> |Target- Current Period|

Upwards

When Previous/ Current Period ≠Target; |Target – Previous Period|= |Target- Current Period|

Sideways

Note: The above calculation uses absolute values.

E.g. Target = 2 Previous actual = 5 Current actual = 1

        |Target – Previous period|= |2 –5|= 3 (negative is not considered)

        |Target- Current Period| = |2-1|= 1

        3>1, Thus, arrow is Upwards.

Aggregation method would not be considered for the trend arrow. The values would always be based on period values. Hence, for average and cumulative KPIs, the cumulated or averaged values will not be compared. Example given below;
For a more is better, cumulative KPI following actuals are recorded;

Period

Actual

Cumulative actual

Period

Actual

Cumulative actual

Jul 15

10

10

Aug 15

12

22

Sept 15

8

30

Trend arrow for Sept 15 would be based on values; previous period =“12” and current period =“8”. And the arrow would be downwards. Values “22” and “30” would not be considered.

  • Above rules will be applied for all KPI types; normal, calculated, trend, or rollup.

  • When the trend arrow is based on actual, trend KPI should also display a trend arrow  (oppose to when trend arrow is based on performance).

  • For calculated KPIs, calculated actual value that appears within KPI > Target/ actuals page should be considered.

  • For upper nodes of rollup KPIs, actuals entered for the lowest nodes would be rolled up and  the trend arrow would be based on the rolled up actual values.
